A Message from Kristi Teall, Superintendent
I’d like to welcome you to the 18-19 school year! Have you ever wondered what makes a school district great? Great school districts have three things:
- A Passion for Kids
- Commitment to Students
- A Love for Education
St. Louis Public Schools is a district that has all three of the qualities listed above. We are, indeed, a great school district. We are passionate for kids. We want and do what is best for them in terms of their learning and growing. We are committed to students. We provide a very strong multi-tiered system of support for both academics and behaviors. Our commitment will help our students grow into strong individuals and life-long learners. We have a love for education. Education provides our students more than just the ability to read, write and do math. It provides them skills to take into their future. We will teach them the skills to be successful adults and citizens.
In order to do this, we have three school wide reform strategies that will be focused on this year. We will implement small group instruction in grades K-3 to really target reading and literacy. Our goal is to have all 3rd grade students reading at grade level by the end of the school year. We will add math coaching to target improving student engagement and learning of math skills K-8. Our goal is to have all 8th grade students proficient in math by the end of the school year. Finally, we have added two social emotional learning teachers to our elementary building to help our students with skills for learning, empathy toward others, emotional management, and problem solving. This will be carried into our secondary grades to teach a positive mindset, how to set and achieve goals, how to deal with thoughts, emotions and decisions, and peer conflict. These strategies will help our students personally, strengthen our intervention programs, help us close the achievement gap, and improve teaching and learning in every classroom.
I am proud to be the leader of St. Louis Public Schools. As the Superintendent, I will continue to model our “Together we Can, Together we Do” attitude. Individually we can accomplish some things, but collectively we can accomplish everything! Join our Shark family and become part of a great school district.
“Together we Can, Together we Do!”
